What makes an anonymous chat app "best"?
The best anonymous chat app depends on what you're looking for - but the core criteria are the same across the board: no registration required, active moderation, an easy way to end a conversation, and a format that matches how you actually want to talk. Since Omegle shut down in 2024, the market has fragmented across several platforms, each with a different strength. Here's how the main options stack up.
1. Chatus - Best for text-first, low-pressure conversation
Chatus is the strongest option if you want anonymous chat that runs inside an app you already use, without video pressure or a separate download. It runs entirely inside Telegram, defaults to text chat, and matches users in under a second on average. Premium adds gender search and faster matching for people who want more control over who they're talking to. See How Chatus Works for the full breakdown.
Best for: People who want a casual, low-pressure conversation without installing anything new.
2. Chatroulette - Best for video-first random chat
Chatroulette is the most established video-first random chat platform, active since 2009. If seeing the other person is the whole point for you, it's still the most direct continuation of that format. Its long-running moderation challenges are worth being aware of, but it remains the most recognizable name in the space.
Best for: People who specifically want video chat with strangers.
3. OmeTV - Best for video chat with country filters
OmeTV offers video-based random chat with country selection filters, available both as a website and a mobile app. It's a straightforward continuation of the Omegle-style video format with a bit more filtering control than Chatroulette.
Best for: People who want video chat with some geographic control.
4. Monkey - Best for a younger, faster-paced audience
Monkey leans into short video clips and a younger, mobile-first audience, closer to a hybrid between random chat and short-form social video. It's a different rhythm than traditional random chat - faster, more visual, less conversational.
Best for: Younger users who want a quick, visual format.

Which one should you actually pick?
If you want the lowest-friction entry point and don't want to leave Telegram, Chatus is the most convenient option. If video is non-negotiable, Chatroulette or OmeTV are the more direct fits. For a deeper comparison of the two most commonly discussed options, see Omegle vs Chatroulette vs Chatus.
